I realised that there was never a formal announcement here to read up: The Catara NWN server is offline for quite some time now, due to time constraints. I might revive it someday, but it is pretty unlikely. If anyone wants to use our custom classes or tools, ping me on twitter (@jollyorc) and we can see what we can do for you! In the meantime, I do recommend The World of Avlis: https://avlis.org/

  • What do you miss most? What area do you want to see fleshed out, what quest added?
    Make your wishes here!
  • I wish for a PrC for Knights of the Cult, Order of the Flaming Blade! :)
  • I'll think about it, but since that requires a hak update AND someone who knows what he's doing, this may take quite some time.
  • I'd like to see the various old ruins fleshed out a bit: some humanoid or animal encounters would be good, but even better would be a couple more NPCs like the old witch, tho perhaps ones that speak some sense :) These needn't be much more than a single room or a small cave, perhaps with the encounter set to certain times to add randomness.

Having some NPCs that talk about world lore is always good, especially if they give quests that send you off exploring. On a similar note, IG books that have some of the world lore mentioned in the forums: perhaps located at the cult or church buildings.

An inn at the Ducal Trading post!

Some light at the market at night.. all those poor traders in the dark there!

An extension to the Lakeside lake! I love that bridge, but.. it seems a little redundant when you can just walk around it. If the lake could have a non-walkable river added to the east side, just north of the cow pen, that continued east, it could join with the small lake south of the sheep farm in the next tile. Even a walkable river here would help justify that beautiful bridge!

Some random encounters, especially in the wilder parts: perhaps animals that only spawn at a certain time, or the occasional wandering bandit?

Some humanoids in the abandoned mines.

Expansion of the loot tables... nothing of any great power, but a few more items similar to those that already drop, but with a small boost to some other skills..

I could go on... but i think that's enough for now!
  • This is a lore request rather than a toolset request (and if I've missed the lore posted elsewhere, please direct me to it): I would love to see some information regarding the place of druids in the world (and rangers, too, to the extent that they cast spells at higher levels).

Also, not sure where else to post this question: are races and classes still limited like they were when the Catara server was originally up (which, btw, I liked)?

    Cheers.
  • @szabot:
For the Druids & Rangers, see here.
The original limits are still there, although I need to re-enable the query page so that you can check what is available.
  • Thanks! I am also curious about elves: given that they claim to predate the gods, do they worship the gods or, if not, then what? I'd imagine that Cult membership would be rare for elves, given how reclusive they are.
  • Most modern elves have chosen to worship the gods these days. Elves do recognize the fact that these deities after all, they just claim that the elves as a race are older than the appearance of the gods. (Note that appearance != genesis/birth. And also note that those elves who are actually old enough to remember these times aren't very talkative, at least not to humans and young upstart elves barely two century olds).
  • Something from some other PWs I've played on (such as Abyss404) that might fit Catara well: exploration xp. The first time a PC enters a new area, the PC gets a one-time xp cookie (say, 25). It encourages exploration in general.
  • Exploration XP are already in, although not everywhere. A lot of areas have spots that I have declared "interesting" - those give XP when you find them. I probably should add in more though or make them easier to find.
  • Quest suggestion: the Knight of the Cult at the excavation site (I forget his name) says you can go into the excavation if you want when you ask him if he has work. Some of the big bugs down there drop heavy hide items. Maybe the Knight has some use for them? Would make for another small collection-type quest.
  • There's already someone who takes those.
  • The bar of iron quest pays the same gp/xp as the beetle belly quest, but whereas beetle bellies are plentiful, the bars are an occasional drop. Could the xp reward be increased a little, & the gp payment made more in line with the local economy? As a comparison, a bar of iron in Avlis will fetch between 25-50gp.
